Synopsis:
The ultimate disaster film parody. A nuclear powered bus is going Non-stop from New York to Denver and is plagued by disasters due to the machinations of a mysterious group allied with the Oil lobby. When the driver is injured a washed up, down on his luck, but used to be great type, who as it happens, used to be engaged to the inventor's daughter is brought in to drive the giant bus which includes a one lane swimming pool and a one lane bowling alley.
I still have dreams about the swimming pool. A swimming pool on a bus. Plus, there was a great scene where they change the tire remotely where the old tire just blows off - lucky there wasn't a car next to them.
From The Daily Show - You can fast forward to about 2:50:
The latest George Clooney-directed movie, "Leatherheads", may not garner him any new Oscars, but it is a fun romp through the early world of professional football in 1925, complete with a good old fashioned love triangle. Full of witty, quick dialogue, the movie showcases the fun loving Clooney as Dodge Connolly, the aging football star of the Duluth Bulldogs; Renee Zellweger as the saavy reporter Lexie Littleton, out to expose the story's hero, a player nicknamed "The Bullet" portrayed by John Krasinski.
The story revolves around Connolly's attempt to save the fledgling professional football business by recruiting college football star/ war hero Carter "The Bullet" Rutherford, who is said to have captured a regiment of German soldiers during World War I, to play on his Duluth Bulldogs football team. By the way, the role of downtown Duluth is played by downtown Greer. But cub reporter Lexie Littleton is sent to expose Rutherford after a former soldier claims all is not what it seems with Rutherford's war stories. What happens next can be guessed, Littleton gets in the middle of a love triangle with Connolly and Rutherford and it's every man for himself. I'll let you guess who wins out. That, and the world of professional football is saved for future generations.
Though the movie can be predictable at times, it does have the feel of a good old fashioned Hollywood love story, one that might have been filmed in the 40's and starring someone like Cary Grant. The long, slow zooms of Clooney's face reacting to one event or another will not disappoint the ladies, and Zellweger's bright red lipstick led one reporter at today's press conference to ask where she bought it. The period fashion and look are first rate, and more than one Upstate resident will find themselves trying to figure out where each scene was filmed.
The script, penned by Rutherford County native Duncan Brantley and Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly, is full of the quick one liners and sight gags you would expect for a movie of this type. The banter between Littleton and Connolly when they first meet is one of the highlights of the film. Jonathan Pryce plays the seedy CC Frazier, Rutherford's agent and protector, perfectly. I need this guy as MY agent.
This movie may not set any box office records, but it is a fun "date night" movie. The film opens nationwide April 4th.
